Pykara is a small village in the Niligiris that gets its name from the Pykara River that flows through it. If you loved boating at the Ooty Lake, then you can come here for more such fun. The lake is set in a serene environment and is surrounded by lush meadows.
Pykara is situated about 19 kilometers from Ooty on the Ooty Gudalur route. Pykara dam and reservoir is maintained by the Tourism Department of Tamilnadu. They have organized boat rides. Here, you only get motor boats and speed boats. You and your partner can enjoy a leisurely walk around the lake and from the lake to the Pykara falls. It is not a typical falls where you see a torrent of water gushing down from a height. The Pykara falls is a series of waterfalls with the last one falling from a height of 180 feet. For safety, you may not be able to get close to the flowing river. However, there will be some safe points where you can enjoy the water and take plenty of photographs.
The Boat House opens at 8.30 am and closes by 5.30 pm.
The entry ticket costs INR 5.
